At Agora International School Barcelona, we equip pupils for a future on the international stage, placing maximum importance on the use of English as our principal language, but also offering other foreign languages. A trilingual education forms the basis of our teaching philosophy, so lessons are delivered in our three core languages, English, Castellano and Catalan, at every stage of the curriculum. Our teaching and learning methodologies are adapted to suit the requirements of each academic stage, instilling in our students a lifelong passion for learning and enhancing both their intellectual and interpersonal skills.

Language immersion at Preschool stage is key to the early learning of any language. Our English Language Linguistic Immersion programme starts in the first stage of Preschool at 0-2 years, and at 3-5 years we introduce more vocabulary and oral comprehension in English as part of the pre reading preparation process, which is initiated in P4 and P5. From P4 until Year 4 of Primary school, our pupils study Mandarin Chinese, which can later be continued as an extracurricular activity, and in Year 5 of Primary school, pupils are offered the option of studying either French or German. Students sit official University of Cambridge and Alliance Française examinations at our centre to ensure that they have the recognised qualifications that they need to succeed.

To complete our linguistic programme, all students from Preschool to Baccalaureate take part in the “Connecting Cultures” programme. This is a scheme which focuses on global education, and puts students in contact with young people from other countries with whom they communicate regularly and collaborate on various projects. The aim of this scheme is to provide students with real experiences of different cultures, to awaken their curiosity and interest in the world around them, and to use the languages they have been learning at school to communicate with other children from around the world. A total of 15 countries take part in this scheme, including Senegal, Brazil, the USA and Japan.

Exchange programmes and cultural visits to England, Ireland, France and the USA are made available to all students attending Agora International School Barcelona. We have strong links with the prestigious Stonar School in the UK, also a member of the Globeducate group, and many children attend summer school there. It is also possible for our students to study at Stonar for a term, two terms or for an entire academic year.

Globeducate organise a number of international events, providing the opportunity for our students to mix with students from other countries within the Globeducate educational group. International events organised by Globeducate include Globeducate Model United Nations, Globeducate Academic Olympics, Globeducate International Music Festival, the Globeducate Olympic Games and the Globeducate Arts Competition, and these celebrations provide a unique learning experience. Our students are able to use and improve their language skills whilst meeting and building friendships with other young people from around the world.

“Learning languages opens a gateway to endless possibilities. The benefits of becoming bilingual or multilingual are enormous. Research has suggested that the brain of a multilingual person can have better attention and task-switching capacities than that of a monolingual person. From a social point of view, those who are able to speak different languages not only can communicate with people who have different backgrounds, but they can develop a better understanding of different cultures.”

“At Agora International School Barcelona, a real importance is placed on trilingualism. We have two children aged 6 and 8 who since P3 we decided to educate here for various reasons, one of these being the importance we give to being able to communicate in various languages. From their first day at school they have experienced English language immersion with native tutors, and support in Spanish and Catalan to make sure that the adjustment wasn’t too much. Thanks to this, both of them speak perfect English, without forgetting their native languages Spanish and Catalan, and they can change from one language to another in the same conversation completely naturally.”
